Scan bodies (scan flags) wear out too! Recently one of our very conscientious clients reported problems with his screw-retained crowns and temps seating, but not fitting due to rotational issues. What we found when we evaluated the problem was that his scan flags were breaking down. These 2-piece components become worn and mal-fitting after multiple uses.
Think of it. You radiograph the scan body when you are ready to scan your patient and see that it is properly seated. But in reality, the top component has lost it’s indexing and rotates randomly (if only slightly) or doesn’t seat completely (see picture above) causing an inaccurate scan.
Do yourself a favor! Inspect your scan bodies today and order new if you detect any wear.
